What day is it today? Are you sure? How do you know? Really ask yourself— how do you know what day is is? I'm sure most people will have been able to identify the day fairly easily and instantly. Even when we lose track of dates, like when we are on holiday, it doesn't take much calculation in order to figure it out. But what about the question of how you know it is that date? If you really consider it, it may be less easy to answer. In fact, days of the week are a form of consensus reality. In order to know time (a man-made invention) and therefore what is past and what is present, we need a structure we can concur upon. So we agree on hours in the day, days of the week and months of the year and so on. Of course, this is useful because it means that we can arrange to meet or gather at a particular point in time— imagine trying to plan an outing if there was no structure of hours, days or months! But we must also be aware that these are completely constructed. You see there has never been and will never be a different time that is not now. We exist, we live, we function only in this moment, this "now". And if now is all there really is, then how can there ever be any worry, anxiety, guilt or blame? Today, as you go about your business, take time to remind yourself that the source of all of your living is only in this now!
